Mental health is a huge talking point at the moment, lets focus on the biggest benefits to training
You hear almost everyday about the physical benefits to exercise. They are spread out all over social media, the news, tv adverts and in the gyms/sport centres.
However, the mental benefits to exercise are very rarely spoke of or promoted.
They are as important as the physical benefits and from experience with my clients, the most noticeable in the short term.
Mental health is being spoke about a lot recently therefore I feel this blog post is perfectly timed.
Stress
One of the most commonly known benefits to exercise is stress relief. It's a great way to relive the day to day stresses of life and work by going at exercise with all your effort, leaving nothing behind. With my clients, boxercise is something that works fantastically well.
I had a client the other day, saying 'I'm really not feeling this today, just in a bad mood'. By the end of the session, he was the first to admit he felt so much better and went home with a positive attitude.
Anxiety and Depression
This is big. It's a huge talking point at the moment in the news and public eye. We are hearing more and more people in the UK are silent sufferers. I have experienced this second hand with my partner suffering from these conditions and therefore also seen the benefits of what exercising can do.
When we exercise, we release a natural adrenaline called 'Endorphins'. These will lift your mood and energy levels, giving you a different outlook.
Along with this, many sufferers feel anxiety towards groups and social interaction. Group classes for example may therefore not be the best, but a fitness partner would be ideal or a Personal Trainer like myself. Someone who can understand and take you on a fitness journey to benefit you.
Having seen my partners benefits, these can come as early as 2-4 weeks. I highly recommend exercise to anyone who wishes to find a way to help in the long term.
Work Productivity & Energy
If you think of all the top business men/women in the country, there are very few who are out of shape. Fitness and success in the business world are so related, but many don't see this.
I train a few corporate sessions a week now because business are seeing the benefits, and now the results.
When we gain an increase in fitness level, whether this be CV Fitness or Postural correction and Muscle Strength/Endurance, our energy levels raise, our immune system increases and our mood raises. This is the ideal situation for anyone going into a days work.
Along with these benefits, by training in a group together we can see team building develop.
These are just a few mental benefits exercise can bring, along with the many physical benefits. I hope this has been an interesting read.
